Environmental & Landowner Advisor for Transmission Line Maintenance

Runcorn to Eight Mile Plains, Queensland

Applied Environment & Safety provided onsite environmental and landowner support for this tower maintenance project located within the southern suburbs of Brisbane.

This required managing project works adjacent to sensitive areas such as Bulimba Creek, major motorways and within residential backyards.

Environmental support for this project included development of Site Based Management Plans and operational checklists. Ongoing environmental monitoring and liaison with nearby residents was undertaken during the abrasive blasting and painting works. Then supervision of the clean-up of the work sites and rehabilitation for project closure.

Environmental Advisor for Transmission Line Refurbishment

Gladstone, Queensland

Applied Environment & Safety provided environmental support to Downer for this refurbishment project in Gladstone, northern Queensland. This project included abrasive blasting and painting of corroded steel lattice structures on Powerlink’s transmission lines 1160 and 1161.

Environmental support for this project included environmental monitoring of blasting and painting operations, particularly adjacent to sensitive mangrove intertidal zones. As well as collection of paint and soil samples for analysis of potential contamination. By providing practical environmental management solutions throughout the project, positive environmental outcomes were achieved for all stakeholders.

Environmental Advisor for Transmission Line Refurbishment

Collinsville to Proserpine, Queensland

Applied Environment & Safety provided environmental support for the Powerlink tower refurbishment project. This project involved abrasive blasting and painting of 190 corroded steel lattice transmission line structures.

Our support included development of Site Based Management Plans and Biosecurity Management Plans. Then environmental monitoring including collection of paint and soil samples for analysis of potential contamination. Our continuous monitoring and reporting of environmental requirements combined with liaison with key stakeholders, added great value to the project.

Environmental Advisor for Transmission Line Refurbishment

Mackay, Queensland

Downer engaged Applied Environment & Safety to provide onsite environmental support for this Powerlink transmission line maintenance project.

This $10 million project involved abrasive blasting and painting of corroded steel structures within cropping land in northern Queensland.

Our support included preparation of Site Based Management Plans, environmental monitoring and environmental reporting. We worked closely with all stakeholders throughout the project to ensure positive environmental outcomes and good working relationships.

Environmental & Landowner Advisor for Transmission Line Rebuild

Wagga Wagga, NSW

Downer engaged Applied Environment & Safety to provide environmental and landholder support throughout this transmission line rebuild project. This $20 million project involved the replacement of 250 wooden pole structures.

Our support to the project commenced during planning with the development of the Construction Environmental Management Plan then onsite environmental management and landholder liaison support during construction.

Working in collaboration with Downer, the project was successfully completed with no environmental non-compliances and strong working relationships with landholders.

Onsite Environmental Advisor for Transmission Line Rebuild

Wagga Wagga to Tumut, NSW

Applied Environment & Safety provided environmental support for this TransGrid transmission line rebuild project.

This project was completed over 18 months and involved the replacement of wooden pole structures spanning 80km across diverse landscapes from Wagga Wagga to Tumut.

Our support commenced during planning with the development of the Construction Environmental Management Plan, Site Access Plans and other environmental approvals. We provided onsite environmental management support throughout construction.

Following completion of the works, disturbed areas were rehabilitated in accordance with the requirements of landowners and best practice.

Applied Environment & Safety was engaged by Downer to provide environmental and safety support for multiple TransGrid Low Span Remediation projects within the Bathurst region.

Our support included the development of Construction Environmental Management Plans; Site Access Plans and Emergency Management Plans. Then onsite environmental, safety and heritage management support for these projects. The flexibility in the delivery of our support to these projects was greatly beneficial to our client adding to the value to each of these projects.

Mudgee, NSW

Applied Environment & Safety provided support during planning for this transmission line and substation construction project.

Our support included development of the Construction Environmental Management Plan and issue specific sub-plans including sediment & erosion control, waterway crossings and vegetation clearing. We also managed specialist consultants undertaking the pre-clearing flora and fauna assessments.

Environmental & Safety Plans for Oil & Gas Operations

Perth, Western Australia

Buru Energy regularly engages Applied Environment & Safety to prepare Environment Plans and Safety Management Plans for oil and gas operations. Buru Energy is an onshore petroleum exploration and production company operating in the northwest region of Western Australia in an area known in geological terms as the Canning Superbasin.

Our environmental support to Buru has included the development of environmental management plans for infrastructure upgrades at the Ungani Oil Production Facility as well as seismic surveys and well drilling for exploration operations. Other support has included the review and development of safety and emergency management plans and procedures.

We work in collaboration with Buru to understand the scope of works, identify relevant risks and suggest practical risk mitigation measures.

Environmental Document Review for Oil & Gas Operations

Canning Basin, Western Australia

Rey Resources engaged Applied Environment & Safety to undertake a review of their management plan for compliance with regulatory and best practice requirements. Rey Resources undertakes onshore oil and gas exploration operations within the Canning Basin in northwestern Western Australia.

Our support to Rey Resources included a review of their Environment and Heritage Management Plan as well as supporting environmental operational procedures. Our knowledge of onshore oil and gas operations, potential environmental risks, and management measures ensured an effective review of their operational documents.

Environmental & Landholder Support for Transmission Line Demolition

Whyalla to Port Lincoln, South Australia

Applied Environment & Safety supported Enerven during the Eyre Peninsula Transmission Line Demolition project.

This project for ElectraNet involved the demolition and disposal of two transmission lines. In total, 510 structures over 210 km were decommissioned from Whyalla to Port Lincoln in South Australia.

Our team contributed their practical experience of environmental management and land access to this project with a focus on biosecurity, landholder liasion and protection of flora and faunaThis project was awarded to Applied Environment & Safety following the successful delivery of environmental and landholder support for the Eyre Peninsula Transmission Line upgrade project.

Environmental Inspections for Bruce Highway Upgrades

Gympie to Maryborough, Queensland

Applied Environment & Safety provided environmental inspection and auditing support to Hazell Bros during the Bruce Highway intersection upgrades and safety widening project located between Gympie and Maryborough.

The environmental audit was based on compliance with the Environmental Management Plan. The ongoing inspections included sediment and erosion controls, waste and water management and hazardous substance storage and use. Short reports were developed for submission to Department of Transport and Main Roads.

 

PCA Ground Engineering

Environmental Audit for Transmission Line Works

Yass, NSW

Applied Environment & Safety were engaged by PCA Ground Engineering to complete environmental audits of transmission line maintenance works on TranGrid Lines 4 and 5 located between Yass and Marulan, NSW.

The environmental audits were based on compliance with the Construction Environmental Management Plan and Sediment and Erosion Control Plans. Recommendations and opportunities for improvement were provided to the client. As well as short reports developed for submission to TransGrid.

Environment & Land Access for Transmission Line Construction

Whyalla to Port Lincoln, South Australia

Applied Environment & Safety provided environmental planning support during the early contractor involvement (ECI) stage of ElectraNet’s Eyre Peninsula transmission line upgrade project. Our support involved input into design, site scoping and development of management measures.

We were then engaged to provide ongoing environmental management and land access support for this $290 million project during construction of the 270 km transmission line from Whyalla to Port Lincoln. This included development of the Construction Environmental Management Plan and issue specific sub-plans. Then onsite implementation and compliance through all phases of construction to rehabilitation.

Our knowledge of transmission line construction phases and potential associated environmental risks allowed us to develop and implement effective controls.

Environmental Management Plans & Inspections

Noosa, Queensland

Applied Environment & Safety provided environmental support to PCA Ground Engineering during road embankment stabilisation works in Noosa, Queensland. These works were important to maintaining the long-term serviceability of the road and drainage infrastructure at this location.

Our role on this project was to provide technical environmental support. This included the development of a Construction Environmental Management Plan, Sediment and Erosion Control Plan, and Rehabilitation Plan. Then we undertook inspections of the works during construction to ensure compliance with the controls for the environmental aspects.

Organic & Biodynamic Support for Construction

Kidston to Mt Fox, Queensland

Applied Environment & Safety is supporting the Powerlink Genex Kidson Connection project with environmental management and land access. This has included landholder and access requirements for an organic and biodynamic property.

Powerlink is delivering a 275 kV electricity transmission line to connect the Genex renewable energy generation project to the national electricity grid. This $295 million project requires construction of 348 transmission towers across 186km between the Genex Clean Energy Hub and switching station at Mount Fox.

Our involvement in this project has included development of the Property Management Plan with specific requirements for biosecurity, access, materials disclosure, and rehabilitation. As well as environmental inspections and compliance support during construction.

Downer FKG Joint Venture

Environment Support for Department of Defence Project

Shoalwater, Queensland

Applied Environment & Safety provided environmental support for a large Department of Defence (DoD) construction and upgrade project.

This $125 million project included construction of a new 1,000 troop urban operations training facility and upgrades to an airfield, internal roads, creek crossings and beach landing site.

Our role on this project included technical environmental support and compliance tracking. Implementation required environmental inspections, tracking and closing permits, and liaison with DoD environmental representatives.

Environmental Support for Transmission Line Construction

Tarrone, Victoria

Elecnor contracted Applied Environment & Safety to provide environmental support for the transmission line construction project. The Hawkesdale wind farm connection project involves constructing a 15km transmission line from the wind farm to the existing Tarrone substation.

Our involvement began during the planning phase, developing the Construction Environmental Management Plan and other environmental approvals. Throughout the construction phase, we have been providing onsite and remote environmental support to the project team. This includes conducting internal compliance audits, developing permits, and updating environmental procedures.

Due to the project’s close proximity to sensitive receptors such as waterways and EPBC listed wetlands, we have implemented additional controls to minimise or eliminate construction impacts.

Senior Environmental Advisor for Transmission Line Construction

Moranbah, Queensland

Applied Environment & Safety are continuing to provide senior environmental support to the Downer Anglo and Bowen Coal Transmission Line Relocation project. The first portion of this $58 million project involves constructing 34km of new transmission line with 94 towers.

Environmental support for this project has included development of the Environmental Management Plan, managing environmental compliance, and providing the project team with onsite technical support throughout construction.

Our detailed knowledge of transmission line construction phases and potential associated environmental risks allows us to develop and implement effective mitigation and management measures.

Environmental Support for Transmission Line Construction

Canberra, Australian Capital Territory

The Applied Environment & Safety team provided environmental support to the Downer Harman Transmission Line project.

This $7 million transmission line project was located within the road reserve of the Monaro Highway, Hindmarsh Drive and Canberra Avenue and connected into a substation on the HMAS Harman base.

Environmental support for construction involved development of the Environmental Management Plan, managing environmental compliance, and providing technical advice to the project team.

Large portions of the project were located in close proximity to ACT Government protected trees and adjacent to EPBC protected habitat and vegetation communities. Our practical support allowed the project team to minimise environmental impacts whilst working in constrained sites, such as road reserve adjacent to environmental sensitivities.

Ormeau, Queensland

The Applied Environment & Safety team provided environmental support to DT Infrastructure during project planning and early works for the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP) Ormeau Maintenance Facility project.

Our support to the project involved the review and update of the Environmental Management Plan and associated sub-plans, development of an Environmental Compliance Register, relevant monitoring registers and Environmental Controls Maps.
