Practical ISC Rating support. Credit-focused, evidence-driven, verification-ready.

For major infrastructure projects, an Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) Rating from the Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) is increasingly a client requirement, a tender differentiator and a mark of genuine sustainability performance. Achieving a rating takes structured effort across the project lifecycle, from early planning through design, construction and verification.

AES supports infrastructure projects through the ISC Rating process across Australia. We help project teams understand the requirements, target the right credits, gather the evidence and work through verification, so sustainability performance is delivered and recognised.

Featured Project

Environmental Management Plans & Inspections

Noosa, Queensland

Applied Environment & Safety provided environmental support to PCA Ground Engineering during road embankment stabilisation works in Noosa, Queensland. These works were important to maintaining the long-term serviceability of the road and drainage infrastructure at this location.

Our role on this project was to provide technical environmental support. This included the development of a Construction Environmental Management Plan, Sediment and Erosion Control Plan, and Rehabilitation Plan. Then we undertook inspections of the works during construction to ensure compliance with the controls for the environmental aspects.

What is an Infrastructure Sustainability Rating?

An Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) Rating is a formal assessment of the sustainability performance of an infrastructure project, delivered through the Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) using the IS Rating Tool. Ratings can be pursued across the project lifecycle, covering planning, design (As Designed), construction (As Built) and operations, and assess performance across categories including energy and carbon, water, materials, ecology, and social and economic outcomes.

A rating provides independent, third-party verification that a project has achieved a defined level of sustainability performance, measured against a nationally recognised standard.

Infrastructure clients, particularly state and federal government agencies, increasingly require an IS Rating as a condition of funding or contract. Beyond compliance, the rating process embeds sustainability into project decisions from the outset, identifies efficiency and cost-saving opportunities, and creates the documented evidence needed to demonstrate performance at project completion. Projects that engage with the rating process early are far better placed to achieve their target rating efficiently.

Industries We Support

Applied Environment & Safety supports infrastructure projects through the ISC Rating process across a range of sectors.

Why Work With Applied Environment & Safety

We provide ISC Rating support that is practical, credit-focused and grounded in real project delivery. Our team understands that a rating has to be pursued alongside the day-to-day pressures of a live project, and that credits are won through disciplined evidence and good decisions, not paperwork for its own sake.

We help project teams target the right credits, gather defensible evidence and work through verification efficiently. We draw on broad environmental and sustainability expertise across infrastructure, so our support connects the rating to the wider environmental and sustainability requirements of your project.

As a certified carbon neutral organisation with deep infrastructure experience, AES brings genuine sustainability credibility to every project we support.

Common questions from organisations about carbon accounting.

What is an Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) Rating?

An IS Rating is a formal, third-party assessment of the sustainability performance of an infrastructure project, delivered through the Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) using the IS Rating Tool across categories including energy and carbon, water, materials, ecology and social outcomes.

When can a project pursue an IS Rating?

Ratings can be pursued across the project lifecycle, covering planning, design (As Designed), construction (As Built) and operations. Engaging early gives a project the best chance of achieving its target rating efficiently.

Who needs ISC Rating support?

Infrastructure project owners and delivery agencies pursuing an IS Rating, contractors and consortia bidding for projects with rating requirements, project teams targeting a Design or As Built rating, and organisations new to the ISC Rating Tool.

How does AES support the ISC Rating process?

We review your rating requirements and target level, set a credit strategy, coordinate evidence credit by credit across the rating categories, provide sustainability input to design and construction, and manage verification preparation and submission through the ISC process.
