Framework-aligned sustainability reporting, ready to publish.

Australia’s sustainability reporting landscape has fundamentally changed. The Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS), mandatory from January 2025 for large entities, have established climate-related financial disclosures as a legal requirement for the first time. At the same time, voluntary reporting frameworks such as GRI, ISSB and CDP continue to raise the bar on disclosure expectations across every sector.

AES helps organisations navigate this environment with confidence. We provide sustainability reporting services that are accurate, framework-aligned and implementation-ready, supporting first-time reporters working through new mandatory obligations as well as established programmes looking to improve reporting quality and efficiency.

Framework-aligned sustainability reporting. Accurate, credible and ready to publish.

Environmental Management Plans & Inspections

Noosa, Queensland

Applied Environment & Safety provided environmental support to PCA Ground Engineering during road embankment stabilisation works in Noosa, Queensland. These works were important to maintaining the long-term serviceability of the road and drainage infrastructure at this location.

Our role on this project was to provide technical environmental support. This included the development of a Construction Environmental Management Plan, Sediment and Erosion Control Plan, and Rehabilitation Plan. Then we undertook inspections of the works during construction to ensure compliance with the controls for the environmental aspects.

What is sustainability reporting?

Sustainability reporting is the process of disclosing an organisation’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance to internal and external stakeholders. It covers a range of metrics, from greenhouse gas emissions and energy use to social impact, governance structures and climate-related financial risks, and must be prepared in accordance with recognised standards and frameworks.

The primary frameworks applicable to Australian organisations include:

  • ASRS (AASB S1 and AASB S2): mandatory for large entities from January 2025
  • GRI Standards: the most widely used voluntary sustainability reporting framework globally
  • ISSB Standards (IFRS S1, IFRS S2): the international baseline for climate and sustainability disclosure
  • CDP: a voluntary disclosure platform widely used by investors and supply chain programmes

For organisations already reporting voluntarily, the shift to mandatory frameworks requires careful review of existing processes, data quality, disclosure scope and reporting systems. Gaps that were acceptable under voluntary reporting are now material omissions under law.

FAQ’s

Common questions from organisations about sustainability reporting.

What is sustainability reporting?

Sustainability reporting is the process of disclosing an organisation’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance to internal and external stakeholders, covering greenhouse gas emissions and energy use through to social impact, governance structures and climate-related financial risks.

Is sustainability reporting mandatory in Australia?

Yes, for large entities. The Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS) introduced mandatory climate-related financial disclosures from January 2025, with obligations expanding to more entities over time. Voluntary frameworks such as GRI and CDP continue to apply alongside these requirements.

Which reporting frameworks apply to Australian organisations?

The primary frameworks are the ASRS (AASB S1 and AASB S2), the GRI Standards, the ISSB Standards (IFRS S1 and IFRS S2) and CDP. AES helps organisations select and align with the frameworks that match their obligations and stakeholder expectations.

We already report voluntarily: what changes under ASRS?

The shift to mandatory reporting requires careful review of existing processes, data quality, disclosure scope and reporting systems. Gaps that were acceptable under voluntary reporting are now material omissions under law.
